The mission of the employee wellness program, WAY (Wellness And You) , is to improve employee health, establish a healthier worksite and help minimize the trends of rising healthcare costs. The WAY Program provides various health programs and services to encourage and motivate you to achieve and maintain superior health.
The onsite WAY Health Clinic is a free, confidential, and convenient health resource for all regular (benefits eligible) employees, and spouses and dependent children(age 13 or older) covered by the county’s BCBSNC medical plans.

Health Risk Assessments and Insurance Premium Wellness Incentives
One of the benefits of our wellness program is a free Health Risk Assessment (HRA) for non-temporary (benefits-eligible) employees. Participation in the HRA is allows you to know your current health status and to qualify for the wellness incentive of paying a “lower preferred” rate towards your portion of the medical insurance premium.**Participation in the Wellness Incentive Program is voluntary. **
Wellness Challenges and Monthly Educational Programs are provided to encourage employees to strive for healthy living.
Wellness Challenges encourage employees to engage in those healthy behaviors, like eating healthy and moving more through to support healthy lifestyles.
Wellness Education opportunities are provided monthly with Health professionals and subject matter experts presenting health classes that contain helpful health information and lifestyle tips to reduce risks for chronic health conditions.
The WAY program encourages healthy active lifestyles. Physical activity is known to greatly improve personal health and wellbeing by reducing your risk for various diseases (diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, etc.) as well as improve energy, sleep habits and reduce stress.
Physical activity simply means movement of the body that uses energy. Walking, gardening, climbing the stairs, dancing the night away are all good examples of being active. *For health benefits, physical activity should be moderate or vigorous intensity.
WAY Fitness Studio
Employees have access to an onsite Fitness Studio.
Employees also have access to group fitness classes.
Work/Life Balance/Stress Management: The New Hanover County Employee Assistance Program, offered through ComPsych and is designed to support you with a variety of resources including managing finances, stress, legal issues, or individual, couples and family counseling. These services are all FREE to county employees AND their families. We want you to know that we are here to help keep you safe, happy and successful in both your professional and private life.
Local Health/Wellness Events: Cape Fear Healthy Living Resource: This is a free, easy to use, one stop source that contains health information as well as local wellness events happening in the Cape Fear region. www.livefitcapefear.org
